Slash Opens Up On Meeting Les Paul

Slash is known for his use of a Gibson Les Paul model guitar - and in a recent interview with Esquire magazine, the former Guns N' Roses star paid tribute to the man behind the instrument.

In the interview, Slash credits the legend with changing music as we know it.

"I used to think Les Paul was a guitar," he said. "I didn't know he was a real guy. When I got to know him, I found out that if you're really obsessed, he was the guy you'd want to be like."

"He was always trying to find an answer for what he was looking for in his mind. If things didn't exist, he built them himself. He single-handedly created what I consider 'popular music,'" he added.

Slash is currently at work on the follow-up to his self-titled debut solo album.
