A new documentary about the life of Jerry Garcia is reportedly in the works.

According to a new report from Rolling Stone, filmmaker Malcolm Leo is piecing together the film from text he collected in an interview with the Grateful Dead legend in 1987.

Leo is joined by producer and former band manager John Hartmann.

Hartmann has managed groups ranging from the Eagles to Crosby, Stills and Nash, and helped secure approval for the film from Garcia's estate. Many other film-making teams have tried unsuccessfully to secure rights to a doc about the guitarist.

Garcia was honored in San Francisco last year during Jerry Garcia Day at the San Francisco Giants' AT&T Park.

Leo and Hartman were on hand as former Dead members sang the national anthem and performed "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" accompanied by 40,000 fans who had been furnished with kazoos.
