Korean electronics giant LG announced a major breakthrough in television Monday morning, revealing its long-awaited LG Smart TV with Google TV to a packed house on Press Preview Day at the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show.
With its new products generating oohs and aahs from a bleary-eyed press corps at 8 am Las Vegas time, LG may the real showstopper at this year's CES.
A breathtaking 84-inch cinema screen 3D TV with NANO Full LED was presented by LG CTO Woo Hyun Paik. LG's newest web-enabled 3D televisions feature a Magic Motion QWERTY remote -- a 3D gesture interface allows for incredible game play.
As predicted, LG unveiled also a 55-inch OLED TV. The world's thinnest large TV is only 4 millimeter-thin and weighs a scant 7.5 kilograms.
"We have made huge improvement in size and input devices for a more immmersive home viewing experience," said Paik. "We've reduced the thickness without sacrificing picture quality."
The company also announced the L9 chipset, its own dual core ARM processor for TVs.
Among the innovations in home appliance technology, LG presented a freezer that can blast freeze a bottle of soda in five minutes.
In a difficult economy in 2011 LG USA increased its North American revenues to $12 billion, with record sales for the holiday quarter.
