Canada's new car dealerships were quiet in December, as the number of new vehicles sold declined for a second month, official data showed Tuesday.
Slow sales of trucks in Ontario and Alberta led new vehicles sales down 3 percent to 133,146 units, according to Statistics Canada.
Sales of trucks and vans decreased 6.0 percent to 75,175 units in December. Passenger car sales rose 1.1 percent. to 57,971 units.
However, preliminary data indicates a good start to 2012, with strong demand for passenger cars expected to drive the total number of new vehicles sold higher by 16 percent.
