State Auto Financial Corp. (STFC) reported fourth quarter net income of $100.6 million, or $2.49 per share, up from $37.6 million, or $0.94 per share, for the fourth quarter of 2010. Net income from operations per share for the fourth quarter 2011 was $2.30, versus $0.78 for the same 2010 period.
Total revenues for the quarter rose to $401.1 million from $356.9 million in the prior year quarter.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.44 per share on revenues of $386.65 million for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
