HCL Info Wins Rs.278 Cr. Laptops Order From ELCOT

HCL Infosystems Ltd. said it had won a contract for Rs.278 crore from Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd., or ELCOT, for supply of two lakh units of HCL ME Laptops to government and state aided schools and colleges across Tamil Nadu.

This is the first phase of the 5-year project and in this phase HCL will supply two lakh laptops, out of a total order volume of 9 lakh laptops units, the company said.

It said it would provide two lakh laptops to students in seven districts, comprising 24 Taluk Offices. The company will also set up its Service Centres in all of these Taluks to offer comprehensive maintenance and handle any service requests.

The laptops will also cover both Open source 'BOSS' operating system as well as Microsoft Windows. ELCOT is also planning with other respective government organizations to provide a few useful educational applications along the each laptop. These applications will be then pre-loaded in the HCL laptops.

Executive Vice President A.P.S. Bedi, said, "We have always been committed towards the cause of revolutionizing education in the country through adoption of technology and are really grateful to be associated with this prestigious project initiated by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The efforts made by the Government of Tamil Nadu and ELCOT for encouraging ICT enabled education are truly commendable and we look forward to this continued association. We are confident that such initiatives will boost PC penetration and democratize access to technology by students."

At the BSE, HCL Infosystems shares are currently trading at Rs.49.80, up by 3.21 percent from the previous close.
