(RTTNews) - A new study from researchers at the University of Miami suggests that daily consumption of diet soft drinks could be linked to an increased risk of death from heart attack or stroke.
For the study a research team lead by Dr. Hannah Gardener studied 2,564 subjects surveying their previous history of vascular events. They found that those who consume diet soft drinks daily were 45 percent more likely to have had a vascular event than those who do not.
"Our results suggest a potential association between daily diet soft drink consumption and vascular outcomes. However, the mechanisms by which soft drinks may affect vascular events are unclear. There is a need for further research before any conclusions can be drawn regarding the potential health consequences of diet soft drink consumption," Gardener explained in a news release.
