Spanish House Mortgages Fall Sharply In December

The number of mortgaged residential properties in Spain decreased from the previous year in December, data released by statistical office INE showed Thursday.

The number of home mortgages fell by 37.2 percent on an annual basis to 24,610 in December. The value of capital loaned for house purchase dropped 43.3 percent annually during the month.

At the same time, overall property mortgages decreased 38.8 percent year-on-year to 39,185 in December. The amount of capital loaned dropped 37.4 percent annually.
