Daniel von Bargen is in critical condition after attempting to commit suicide on Monday.
The former "Seinfeld" actor (who played George Costanza's boss Mr. Kruger in the sitcom) called 911 after shooting himself in the temple in his Cincinnati home on Monday morning. During his call to emergency services, he explained that he had attempted to shoot himself in the head and that he was distraught, as "I was supposed to go to the hospital and I didn't want to", given that he was going to have several toe amputations. He also added: "'My gun is lying next to me on the bed. It is a .38 colt. I can't open my eyes."
Emregency services arrived at the scene shortly after the call, asking von Bargen to hold his hands in the air and enquiring whether there were more guns in the house.
He is now listed in critical condition at an Ohio hospital. Von Bargen, who is a diabetic, had previously had a portion of his leg removed.
Von Bargen has also appeared as Commandant Edwin Spangler on "Malcolm in the Middle" and as Chief Grady in the film "Super Troopers."
