Reps from the Academy Awards have denied that Sacha Baron Cohen has been banned from this year's event. Rumors spread that the Academy had yanked the "Borat" star's tickets after they caught word that he may appear at the event as the main character from his upcoming film "The Dictator."
"We haven't banned him," an Academy spokesperson tells The Hollywood Reporter. "We're just waiting to hear what he's going to do."
Cohen is slated to appear at the event as a cast member of "Hugo," which is nominated for Best Picture. Various sources report that the Academy passed word on the Paramount (home to both "Hugo" and "The Dictator") saying they "don't think it's appropriate" for Cohen to "hijack" the red carpet at the event to promote his new film.
