Haiti's Prime Minister Garry Conille resigned, for reasons not revealed. President Michael Joseph Martelly confirmed the resignation, however no replacement is announced. A power struggle has been brewing in Haiti for the last few weeks and UN has intervened to solve the issues.
A former UN development specialist and a gynecologist by profession, Conille assumed the office in last October. He has promised to create jobs and to rebuild the country, which was in peril following the earthquake in 2010. He was trying to attract foreign investment and was popular with International community. The move of Conille to investigate contracts signed by his predecessors has erupted political tensions. Illegal dual citizenship of cabinet members also was under inquiry by a parliamentary commission.
Prior to the appointment of Conille as prime minister the parliament has rejected two nominees of President Martelly.
