Malaysians Protest Against Rare Earths Refinery

Many people held a demonstration in Malaysia to protest against a rare earth refinery being built in the country over fears of radioactive contamination, reports said Sunday.

Australian miner Lynas have nearly completed building the plant located in Kuantan which will process rare earth ores imported from Australia.

The protesters alleged the risk of dangerous radiation from the plant that cause harm to people and the environment.

Lynas obtained licence from the Malaysian authorities to operate the refinery recently.
