TSX Down At Open Monday

Bay Street stocks opened lower Monday amid selling across a variety of sectors, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index losing 98.58 points or 0.77 percent to 12,627.19.

The Diversified Materials Index shed over 1 percent, with First Quantum Minerals (FM.TO), Inmet Mining (IMN.TO) and Teck Resources (TCK_B.TO) surrendering around 2 percent each.

In the oil patch, Petrominerales (PMG.TO) lost nearly 12 percent after providing details on year-end reserves and operational updates.

Among gold stocks, Allied Nevada Gold (ANV.TO) and Centerra Gold (CG.TO) were down over 2 percent each.

In the financial space, Royal Bank (RY.TO), TD Bank (TD.TO) and National Bank (NA.TO) eased around 1 percent each.

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International (VRX.TO) slipped 1 percent even after it swung to profit in the fourth quarter.
