Keith Richards joined Eric Clapton for a duet on the Howlin' Wolf classic "Going Down Slow" during a tribute concert at New York City's Apollo Theatre on Friday, February 24.

The tribute, "Howlin for Hubert," was for blues guitarist Hubert Sumlin, who passed of heart failure on December 4 of last year. Sumlin played guitar in Howlin' Wolf's band for a number of years.

Clapton and Richards also teamed up for "Spoonful" while Richards played a handful of Howlin' Wolf songs including "Little Red Rooster."

After Sumlin passed both Richards and Mick Jagger noted him as an influence for their early Rolling Stones work. The pair also paid the bill for his funeral.

"Warm, humorous and always encouraging, (Hubert Sumlin) was a gentleman of the first order," Richards said.
