Thirteen people were killed and more than 40 injured in an explosion at a chemical plant in China's northern Hebei province on Tuesday, the state-run Chinese media reported quoting local authorities.
The accident occurred at around 9:30 a.m. local time at Hebei Keeperchemical Industries Co. in Zhaoxian county, the Xinhua news agency reported quoting Cheng Weiqing, an official of the Public Security Bureau.
The blast flattened one of the factory's workshops and broke window panes within a radius of 2,000 meters. The explosion rocked three surrounding villages of the plant which manufactures pesticides, Cheng said.
