Bryan Adams has piled onto the News of the World phone hacking scandal after claiming that the police may have been responsible for leaking a story to The Sun.

Three years ago, Adams reported to the police that he was being stalked by a woman and her son; days later The Sun reported the call:

"Although I have no proof, and therefore it is of course speculation, I do not believe that there could be any other explanation than the fact that the source must have been someone related to my call to the police," Adams said in a written statement to the justice in charge of the inquiry.

"I can see no public interest in this being reported. It was not even accurate -- no panic alarm was installed at my house," the Canadian singer added.
