Casey's General Stores, Inc. (CASY: Quote) posted third-quarter net earnings of $16.7 million or $0.43 per share, compared to $12.9 million or $0.34 per share in the previous year period.

On average, six analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.44 per share. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Total revenue for the quarter rose to $1.58 billion from $1.37 billion in the comparable quarter last year, while five analysts expected revenue of $1.65 billion for the quarter.

Further, the company declared a quarterly dividend of $0.15 per share, payable May 15, 2012 to shareholders of record on May 1, 2012.
