Slovenia January Jobless Rate At 12-Year High

Slovenia's jobless rate increased to its highest level in twelve years, data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia showed Friday.

The registered unemployment rate increased to 12.5 percent in January from 12.1 percent in December. The latest figure is the highest since February 2000, when jobless rate was 12.6 percent, the agency said. In January 2011, the jobless rate was 12.3 percent.

The number of registered unemployed persons increased to 115,965 in January from 112,754 in December.

During the period, the number of persons in employment decreased by about 5,700 from the previous month to 811,568.
