Doctors woke Gallagher, 65, out of a medical induced coma on Saturday, March 17, prompting the comedian to try out some jokes.

His manager, Christine Scherrer, said that once awake Gallagher recognized his family, recognized and spoke with them and was generally in good spirits.

The funnyman was rushed to the hospital after collapsing on stage during a performance in Rochester, Minnesota a year ago.
At the time, it was reported that he was in the middle of his signature watermelon-smashing routine when he collapsed.

Witnesses said that he was clutching his chest and shaking. There were a number of doctors present in the audience who came to his assistance.

And, just last week, Gallagher collapsed at a performance in Lewisville, Texas. He subsequently had two artificial tubes inserted in his chest.
