Italy Non-EU Trade Deficit Narrows In February

The deficit from Italy's merchandise trade with countries outside the European Union (EU) narrowed in February, preliminary data released by statistical office Istat showed Thursday.

The trade deficit decreased to EUR1.552 billion in February from EUR2.338 billion in the same month last year.

Export of goods to the non-EU countries increased 11.8 percent annually during the month. Sequentially, the value of shipments moved up a seasonally adjusted 0.5 percent in February.

The value imports from non-EU states advanced 4.6 percent year-on-year in February. On a monthly basis, seasonally adjusted imports decreased 0.4 percent.

In the three months ended February, exports advanced a seasonally adjusted 2.2 percent from the previous three-month period, while imports decreased 1.1 percent. In the January-February period, exports and imports increased 8.5 percent and 2.3 percent respectively from the same period last year, the agency said.
