Shoe Carnival Inc. (SCVL) reported fourth quarter EPS of $0.24 after the bell Wednesday, down from $0.33 in the previous year. The consensus estimate was for EPS of $0.21. The company expects to report first quarter EPS of $0.75 to $0.78, compared to the consensus estimate of $0.70.
Shoe Carnival gapped up sharply Thursday and climbed during the first half hour of trade. Shares rose further around midday and finished up by 5.61 at $32.11 on the highest volume of the year. The stock surged to a 7 1/2 month high.
