NBC has confirmed that they will bring back their new drama series "Smash" for a second season. According to hollywoodreporter.com, the show has brought NBC a major improvement in the 18-49 viewer ratings and total viewership is up 100 percent on average in its Monday night slot.
A rep from NBC says that while the show will definitely be back, it's unclear how many episodes they will order. Creator Theresa Rebeck is already planning the story for the second season of the show, which centers on the making of a Broadway musical about Marilyn Monroe.
"The second season, if we're lucky enough to get one, would be Marilyn comes to Broadway and how it fares in New York," Rebeck told the Television Critics Association earlier this year.
Added EP Marc Shaiman: "The show itself is telling us; it's not like we don't think ahead. What we thought nine months ago is changing week to week as the actors bring what they bring."
