Jill Scott and Queen Latifah will star in the remake of 1989's Steel Magnolias. In a twist on the original, the remake will have an all-black cast.
Queen Latifah has signed to play M'Lynn, and be an executive producer. Jill Scott will take part as Truvy, Condola Rashad as Shelby, Phylicia Rashad as Clairee, Alfre Woodard as Ouiser and Adepero Oduye cast as Annelle.
The reprisal of Steel Magnolias, directed by Kenny Leon (A Raisin in the Sun), is expected to begin filming sometime this April.
"The caliber of talent associated with this film is astounding and falls in line with our strategy to make Lifetime a first stop for the industry's best both in front of and behind the camera," Nancy Dubuc, president and general manager of Lifetime Entertainment, said in a statement.
