Finnish Consumer Sentiment Weakens In March

Finland's consumer confidence deteriorated moderately in March, data released by Statistics Finland showed Tuesday.

The consumer confidence index dropped to 8 in March from 8.3 in February. In January 2012 and March last year, the readings were 3.5 and 17.7 respectively.

Finnish households were less optimistic about their own financial condition in twelve months' time, with the relevant indicator dropping to 5.3 in March from 5.8 in the previous month. Consumers were more downbeat about the country's economic condition in March. The corresponding index decreased to -4.4 from -2.2 in February.

Meanwhile, the indicator that measures consumers' views of unemployment in twelve months' time improved to -16.5 in March from -17.6 in February, while the sub-index of inflation expectations rose to 3.1 from 2.9, the agency said.
