Florence Welch of Florence And The Machine was voted the greatest woman in rock of all time according to XFM. Welch beat out other notable female frontladies like Courtney Love, Amy Winehouse and PJ Harvey to take the top spot.

Speaking about her win, Welch told XFM: "That's amazing! Thank you so much, that's incredible!"

Asked what it means to be a woman in rock, she added: "It is about doing something unexpected for someone who is perhaps more feminine."

The singer continued: "Perverting the idea of femininity - managing to be vulnerable and powerful at the same time is a big thing in performance - really feeling like you've seen someone giving a big part of themselves over to the audience."

Alison Mosshart placed second and was trailed by Skin (Deborah Dyer) at three, Karen O at four and Debbie Harry at five.
