Gregg Allman had to cut short his appearance at the Beacon Theatre in New York City on Saturday of last weekend because of back pain.
A rep for the guitarist, speaking with TMZ.com, said that he has a bulging disc which became inflamed before the show was over:
"For those who have asked - Gregg Allman has bulging discs in his back that are normally under control. Last night, he had a painful flare up 30 minutes before the end of the second set at the Beacon, which forced him to leave the stage."
Allman was then taken to a local hospital and released; he missed Sunday's show as well. The show went on, however, as guest artists John Popper, Jimmy Hall and Col. Bruce sat in. Warren Haynes assumed lead vocal duties.
My Cross to Bear, Allman's memoirs on his battle with Hepatitis C, is due on shelves May 1.
