President Barack Obama's uncle lost his driver's license Tuesday in connection with an August drunken driving incident in Massachusetts.
Framingham District Court ruled the case of 67-year-old Onyango Obama be continued without finding for a year, which means he will avoid serving jail time if he stays out of any further legal trouble, according to WCVB TV.
The court also ordered him to turn in his driver's license for 45 days. Obama plans to apply for a hardship license as early as Friday to get to and from work. Obama, the half-brother of President Obama's late father, pleaded not guilty after being arrested in August in Framingham for allegedly operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and failure to yield at an intersection. However, he admitted to sufficient facts of the charges on Tuesday, according to WCVB TV.
At the time he was arrested, Obama's blood alcohol level was .14, almost double the legal limit of .08.
The drunken driving incident shed light on a 20-year-old deportation order, an issue stemming from Obama's failure to renew his visa. Obama, a native from Kenya, will attend a separate hearing on the deportation issue in May.
