Twentieth Century Fox has reportedly pulled the marketing campaign behind their upcoming comedy "Neighborhood Watch" following the recent killing of Florida teen Trayvon Martin. The youngster was gunned down by a self-appointed member of a neighborhood watch team.
The film stars Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill, Vince Vaughn and Richard Ayoade as a team of neighbors who are mobilizing against a group of invading aliens. In a trailer for the film Hill's character makes a gun-like motion with his hand.
"We are very sensitive to the Trayvon Martin case, but our film is a broad alien invasion comedy and bears absolutely no relation to the tragic events in Florida. The movie, which is not scheduled for release for several months, was made and these initial marketing materials were released before this incident ever came to light," a rep from the studio revealed.
"The teaser materials were part of an early phase of our marketing and were never planned for long term use," the studio adds.
A marketing poster for the film also depicts a "neighborhood watch" street sign that is peppered with bullet holes.
