TSX Jumps At Open Friday

Bay Street stocks rebounded at open Friday amid buying across a variety of sectors, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index adding 70.41 points or 0.57 percent to 12,409.77.

The Diversified Materials Index gained over 1 percent, with Teck Resources (TCK_B.TO) and First Quantum Minerals (FM.TO) adding around 1 percent each. Inmet Mining (IMN.TO) rose 0.50 percent.

In the oil patch, Niko Resources (NKO.TO), Canadian Natural Resources (CNQ.TO) and MEG Energy (MEG.TO) moved up over 1 percent each.

Among gold plays, Barrick Gold (ABX.TO), Detour Gold (DGC.TO) and Agnico-Eagle Mines (AEM.TO) added over 1 percent each.

Smartphone maker Research In Motion (RIM.TO) rose over 4 percent despite reporting a lower fourth quarter adjusted net income of $0.80 per share that came in below consensus estimates.
