Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., announced his support for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Friday, saying that the former Massachusetts Governor has the best chance of taking on President Obama in the fall.

Ryan, Chairman of the House Budget Committee, revealed his endorsement in an interview on Fox News, just days before the Republican primary in his home state of Wisconsin.

"I am convinced that Mitt Romney has the skills, the tenacity, the principles, the courage and the integrity to do what it takes to get America back on track," Ryan said. "So I believe that he's the right person for the job."

Ryan's announcement follows other Romney endorsements from fellow GOP leaders such as President George H.W. Bush and Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida.

"It's clear to me he understands the fork in the road America is facing," Ryan said of Romney. "I also think he has the best chance of winning and defeating Barack Obama in the Fall."

Romney has praised Ryan for his budget plan that proposes to cut federal spending and shrink government. The legislation, penned by Ryan, was passed in the House on Thursday, although it will likely be ignored by the Democratic-controlled Senate.

Some say Ryan has vice president potential. However, Ryan has shrugged off the possibility for now.

"No that's ridiculous we've never discussed that at all," Ryan told the Fox News. "My focus has been on the budget I haven't given any of that serious thought."
