Poll: Romney Leads Santorum In Pivotal Wisconsin Primary

Republican front-runner Mitt Romney leads Rick Santorum by seven percentage points heading into Tuesday's crucial Wisconsin primary, a new poll says.

In Wisconsin, Romney leads Santorum 40 percent to 33 percent, according to a NBC News and Marist poll. Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich trail far behind with 11 percent and 8 percent, respectively.

Wisconsin, one of three primaries on Tuesday, is the contest everyone will be watching for it is the one Santorum appears to have a chance to win. The poll surveyed 100 people by telephone from March 26 to 27.

The poll may be good news for Romney as far as winning the GOP nomination; however the former Massachusetts governor trails President Obama by double digits. According to the NBC News/Marist poll, 52 percent of people said they would vote for Obama and 35 percent would choose Romney.

Maryland and the District of Columbia will also hold Republican primaries on Tuesday.
