The late Whitney Houston figures prominently in the trailer for Sparkle, the remake of the 1976 Motown classic, and her last onscreen role.
In the film she plays the role of Jordin Sparks' mother; in the trailer she is pictured goofing around with Sparks and her two sisters, and reflecting winsomely on her own career.
Like the original film, this version of Sparkle will follow the three Williams Sisters at their local church choir and as they eventually go on to become a successful group.
Their sudden rise unravels their personal lives, and the youngest sister, a music prodigy named Sparkle, struggles to become a star while overcoming the issues that are tearing her family apart.
R. Kelly wrote news songs to augment the original song score by Curtis Mayfield.
Sparkle is due in theatres on August 18.
