A man who disguised himself as Elvis and several other celebrities during robberies of betting shops in South England was sentenced to life in prison April 2.

Martin Reilly, 53, of Northamptonshire used a variety of masks and costumes to disguise his face, which was covered in scars. Most memorable was his 1970s era Elvis disguise, replete with muttonchops and aviator style shades.

Threatening shop owners with either a gun or knife, Reilly made off with £23,000 in a series of robberies against bookmakers in Sussex, Hampshire, Surrey, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Essex and London.

"You are a serial armed robber having previously appeared before the court on at least two separate occasions on offending very similar to this. . .I hope the parole board takes my comments on board next time and consider before they release you," said the ruling judge Paul Tain.
