Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire announced Wednesday it will name their medical school after famed alumnus and writer Theodore Geissel, better known as Dr. Seuss.
Geissel was one of the institution's largest financial supporters during his life and his estate has become the single largest private donor since his death in 1991.
"Naming our school of medicine in honor of Audrey and Ted Geisel is a tribute to two individuals whose work continues to change the world for the better," Dartmouth President Jim Yong Kim said in a press release.
Geissel graduated from Dartmouth in 1925 and he frequently commented it was where he discovered his love for writing and illustration.
"Ted Geisel lived out the Dartmouth ethos of thinking differently and creatively to illuminate the world's challenges and the opportunities for understanding and surmounting them," Kim added.
"Audrey and Ted Geisel have cared deeply for this institution, and we are enormously proud to announce this lasting partnership."
