Hacktivist Group Targets Chinese Sites, Tweets Results

Hundreds of Chinese government websites were hacked this week by Anonymous, the activist collective of hackers. After the attacks, the group's "Anonymous China" Twitter feed (@AnonymousChina) named several of the targeted sites.

The attacked sites were emblazoned with the tag "Hack by Anonymous" and the message, "Your government controls the Internet and strives to filter what it considers a threat for it. Be Careful."

Some sites were simply defaced while information, including administrator accounts, phone numbers and e-mail addresses, was leaked from others.

The targeted sites included Tongcheng Environmental Protection, Central Business District, and Weinan City Population Network.

All of the hacked sites are back up-and-running at this time.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei acknowledged Thursday his government was the "victim of hacking," adding the Communist regime is not censorious to web content.
