Lionel Richie's country themed duet album, Tuskegee, has debuted at number two on the Billboard 200, bested only by Madonna's latest, MDNA.
The album sold 199,000 copies in its first week—Madonna's sold 359,000—giving Richie his best sales week since 1986. His previous record, 2009's Just Go, sold just 95,000 total.
Richie's second week of sales should get a boost from the Lionel Richie and Friends in Concert special which airs April 13 following the ACM awards. That event will feature the music legend hooking up with several of the country artists who appear on his LP.
Tuskegee includes guest appearances from some of country music's biggest names including Rascal Flatts, Shania Twain, Darius Rucker, Blake Shelton, Little Big Town, Kenny Chesney, Jennifer Nettles, Kenny Rogers, Jimmy Buffett and Willie Nelson.
