Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY: Quote) reported fourth quarter EPS of $1.48 after the bell Wednesday, up from $1.12 in the prior year period. The consensus estimate was for EPS of $1.33. The company expects to report first quarter EPS of $0.79 to $0.83, compared to the consensus estimate of $0.82.
Bed Bath & Beyond gapped up sharply Thursday and climbed steadily until mid-morning. Shares finished up by 5.62 at $71.85, with volume at over an 11 1/2 month high. The stock broke out of a 3-week range and set a new high for the year.
