An autopsy done on Davy Jones confirmed what many had already believed to be the case—that the ex-Monkee died of a heart attack.
The examination showed that Jones had dangerous levels of build up in his arteries; a corresponding toxicology report showed that he had no drugs present in his system save for cannabinoids likely stemming from marijuana use. Those did not play a factor in his death, officials noted.
Jones joined the Monkees at its formation in 1965 along with Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork.
Their hits, including "I'm a Believer," "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone," "Daydream Believer" and "Last Train to Clarksville," helped the band sell over 50 million records worldwide.
The group split in 1971 after its corresponding television program went off the air, but Jones would lead later incarnations of it; he also had a successful solo music and acting career.
