A new super-PAC has formed to back Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in 2014, when he's up for re-election.

The Bluegrass Votes super-PAC, based in Kentucky, registered with the Federal Election Commission in early April. The group intends to support McConnell with independent expenditures.

"Bluegrass Votes plans to make independent expenditures to support Senator Mitch McConnell's upcoming re-election campaign next cycle," said Justin Brasell, who ran McConnell's reelection campaign in 2008, in a statement, according to the Hill.

Super-PACs are allowed to raise and spend unlimited expenditures in support of a candidate but cannot coordinate with the candidate's campaign.

McConnell ended off last year with $4.2 million. He raised more than $1 million in the final quarter. He is expected to raise more than $25 million for his re-election campaign between now and 2014, according to WFPL News.

According to the group's website, Bluegrass Votes was established to develop and distribute information on the state's job creation and employment numbers, to encourage policies to lead to a better quality of life for citizens, and to engage public education and economic betterment activities.
