"Hunger Games" director Gary Ross has reportedly declined the offer to helm the next installment of Katniss Everdeen's story. According to a report from blog The Playlist, Ross has given his official notice to Lionsgate that he will not return earlier this week.
The site reports that Ross butted heads with the studio over contract negotiations but was also interested in pursuing other opportunities. Ross, who is also successful as a screenwriter, is rumored to have a new project in development that is worth more than Lionsgate's contract for the next film in the series, titled "Catching Fire."
"Catching Fire" is scheduled to go into production this fall and currently has a proposed release date of November 23, 2013. The next installment of the story will find Katniss and Peta moving onto a life as winning Tribute's in the capitol city.
