Santorum Breaks From Campaign Trail To Stay With Ailing Daughter

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum canceled all campaign events on Monday to spend time with his ailing daughter Bella.

Campaign spokesman Hogan Gidley said Santorum "will not hold any campaign related events on Monday so that he and Karen can remain in the hospital with their daughter."

Santorum's 3-year-old daughter Bella returned to the hospital on Friday. She has a rare genetic condition called Trisomy 18 that is typically fatal.

This is the second time the former Pennsylvania Senator has left the campaign trail to tend to his daughter's health. She was hospitalized earlier this year with pneumonia. "The entire Santorum family is incredibly grateful for the outpouring of prayers and support," Gidley said in a statement.

Republican rival Mitt Romney pulled a negative TV ad from Pennsylvania "out of deference" to Santorum.

"We have done this out of deference to Sen. Santorum's decision to suspend his campaign for personal family reasons," Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul said in a statement, according to USA Today.

The Pennsylvania primary is April 24th and is an election Santorum has said is a "must win" for his presidential campaign.
