Czech March Jobless Rate Drops More Than Expected

Unemployment in the Czech Republic deceased more than economists expected in March, data released by the Labor Ministry showed Tuesday.

The unemployment rate decreased to 8.9 percent in March from 9.2 percent in the previous month. Compared to March 2011 also the jobless rate dropped by 0.3 percentage points. Economists expected the March jobless rate to be 9 percent.

Total number of job-seekers in the country declined by 3 percent month-on-month to 525,180 in March. The number of reported vacancies advanced 8.8 percent sequentially to 39,906 during the month.

The statistical office said that unemployment is expected to decrease further in April, owing primarily to the onset of seasonal work in agriculture, forestry and tourism as well as the proposed cleaning of towns and villages.
