Kids Take Charge Of Bus After Driver Suffers Heart Attack

Two seventh grade boys in Milton, Washington took control during an emergency on their school bus Monday after the driver fell unconscious.

Video footage showed the driver suddenly seizing, his hands flailing in the air and his eyes bulging. It was then that Jeremy Wuitschick, 13, noticed something was wrong. As the bus veered out of control, heading toward a church, Wuitschick jumped up and took control of the wheel.

"I ran up, grabbed the wheel...I turned it to the right, took it on the side of the road, took the keys out of the ignition," Wuitschick told KING 5 News. "Bus started slowing down. I'm like 'Somebody call 911' and they did. Then Johnny Wood came up and he's like 'I know CPR.'"

Fellow student Johnny Wood, who is certified in CPR, began giving the bus driver chest compressions.

"The videos popped into my head and I was like 'Somebody call 911. Try to clear the area and start doing chest compressions,'" Wood told local media.

Wuitschick said he had previous driving experience because his mother allowed him to drive their car in the driveway.

The bus driver was taken to a nearby hospital. His condition is unknown.
