Latvia's merchandise trade deficit increased from the previous month in February, data released by Statistics Latvia showed Wednesday.
The trade deficit increased to LVL154.3 million in February from LVL146 million in January. In February 2011, the trade balance was a deficit of LVL107.2 million.
Export of goods increased 4.9 percent from the previous month to LVL489.2 million. In February 2011, the value of shipments was LVL419.1 million.
Imports advanced 5.1 percent sequentially to LVL643.5 million in February. A year earlier, the country imported goods worth LVL526.3 million.
In the January-February period, Latvia's exports increased 14.6 percent from the corresponding period last year, while imports climbed 23.9 percent, the agency said.
