ABC has confirmed that it will once again renew its long-running daytime soap "General Hospital." The show will now stand as the only daytime soap on ABC following the cancellation of "One Life To Live" and "All My Children."

The network has extended the show by one year, giving it the opportunity to reach the 50 year mark in 2013. It is currently the longest running daytime soap and current cast members were quick to hit Twitter and share their excitement:

"I just heard we're going to keep going," Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) tweeted. "What can you say about (executive producer) Frank (Valentini), (head writer) Ron (Carlivati), the crew and everybody at General Hospital? I'm just so damn proud."

"One year renewal! Thank you ABC, GH fans, and @valentinifrank and @carlivatiron," Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) tweeted. "What a difference! Upward!"
