A van that Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain once drove has failed to fetch its steep asking price on EBay. The van is a 1972 Dodge Sportsman Royal, referred to as "Melvan" because it once belonged to U.S. band The Melvins, a band that Cobain was a roadie for.
The current owner is Montesano, Washington musician Ben Berg, who says the van has been driven exactly once around the block before being parked for 14 years. He originally put the van on EBay with a reserved price at $150,000. The bidding reached $99,000 before the auction date was reached on March 13. Berg then put the van back on Ebay a few days later with a starting price of $50,000.
According to the item description: "The Kiss Mural on the side was hand drawn by Kurt Cobain using sharpie markers shoplifted from the Thriftway grocery store in Montesano, Wash."
"There were a lot of questions in the first listing that addressed why I am selling this piece of rock and roll history and not donating it," Berg wrote in the EBay description. "I have no other motives other than getting out of debt and saving my home."
