Areva Solar, a subsidiary of French firm Areva, today said it had bagged a contract from Reliance Power Ltd. for setting up two solar power plants of 125 MW each in Rajasthan for an undisclosed sum, reports said.
Under the contract, Areva Solar will build two 125 MW and will provide construction management services for the project.
The first phase of the project is under construction, with a target to commence commercial operation by May 2013.
Reliance Power CEO J.. Chalasani said, "Today's announcement is just the beginning. We look forward to working with Areva Solar in helping meet India's clean energy goals through this project."
Areva CEO Luc Oursel commented, "We will leverage our best-in-class experience to help make India and Reliance global solar industry leaders. This contract reinforces the Areva strategy in renewable energies."
At present, Areva Solar has more than 500 MW projects in operation, under construction or in advanced development.
