Mastodon Covers Feist For Record Store Day

Mastodon and Feist have big plans for Record Store Day 2012, with the release of a split single for the annual event.

After the heavy metal band members heard Feist, they knew they wanted to work with her in some way:

"They were great," guitarist Bill Kelliher told Rolling Stone. "We thought, 'Why don't we see if they want to collaborate somehow, some way?"

Then after Feist heard of the band's plans to cover a song of hers, she noted: "Next thing I know, they had announced on MTV that they were gonna cover a song [of mine]," so she decided to reciprocate and cover one of theirs as well.

"It's a wet dream to have Mastodon take one of my songs and put it into their massive machine," said Feist.

Each artist gave the other complete creative freedom to do whatever they wanted with the other's track; Feist picked Mastodon's "Black Tongue" and Mastodon chose Feist's "A Commotion."

The split 7" vinyl record can be purchased for a limited time on Record Store Day, which is April 21.
