With a $100 million domestic opening weekend for "Titanic 3D" James Cameron now has two films that have crested the $2 billion mark. Cameron's sci-fi smash "Avatar" was previously the only film to take in over $2 billion, taking in $2.8 billion with it's release in 2009.
"Titanic" stood as the highest grossing film ever before "Avatar" claimed that record. The disaster epic is now closing ground once again though, as it added a total of $190.8 million worldwide to its previous earnings of $1.84 billion.
And though the big re-opening weekend pushed "Titanic" over the $2 billion mark it could not bump "The Hunger Games" from the top of the box office seller's list. That film continued its reign of dominance for the fourth straight week, bringing its total haul to $337.1 million thus far.
