Police have recovered a man's body and a half-burnt U.S. passport from an abandoned garage in the Russian Urals city of Yekaterinburg, the state media reported on Tuesday.
The man is believed to have died from stab wounds on his neck and traumatic brain injuries. The body was found handcuffed.
The photo in the passport, which was found near the body, has burnt making it impossible to immediately establish whether the document belonged to the victim, said the reports quoting the Investigative Committee.
Police are investigating after informing the U.S. Consulate-General in Yekaterinburg about the discovery.
